Recorded: 10 December 1972
Director: Mick RockVideo credit: David Bowie
Mick Rock filmed and directed David Bowie's third promotional video SPACE ODDITY (5.05 minutes) in RCA's New York recording studio in December 1972 for the re-release of the "Space Oddity" single and the US re-release of "Space Oddity" / "The Man Who Sold The World" albums. The video features Bowie at a studio on acoustic guitar miming to the original 1969 "Space Oddity" backing before he had to pack for the return ship voyage to the UK. Mick Rock states that along with The Jean Genie (1972) and Life on Mars? (1973) film promotions, this video was produced for less than $350, shot in five hours and edited in less than two days. Bowie claims that while this is a great video he was fairly disinterested in the proceedings as, in his mind, he had moved on from the song, which was being shot by RCA for the rerelease.
